:
Three conflicts - the War of 1870-1871, the World War IWorld War II - and thousands of km2 to clear from mines. Bruised France wants to heal its wounds and rebuild. It becomes vital to remove all the mines and ammunition. Those deadly weapons must be handled or displaced by a minesweeper. General de Gaulle in 1945 (21 February) created task force responsible for demining.

Under the authority of the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urban Planning 5000 men started the service under command of the first director - Raymond Aubrac.

Their motto tells everything:

Réussir ou mourir.
Succeed or die.
