It was a secret operation. Scene of the Dachau concentration camp on 17 December 1944. The French bishop of Clermont-Ferrand inaugurated the Deacon Karl Leisner in secret to the priest. Both are prisoners. The discovery of the only ordination that has ever taken place in a German concentration camp, would have had the worst consequences. The young priest suffered from tuberculosis and was very sick. US troops arrived at the Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945. Leisner survived his liberation by only a few weeks. He died on the 12th Of August.

Karl Leisner was born on February 28, 1915 in Rees on the Lower Rhine. His religion teacher inspired him for the Christian youth movement. It became a fixture in his life. Münster Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen gave him 1934, the support of the Catholic youth in the diocese. Leisner looked at it from now on as its mission to protect the youth from falling into the ideology of the Third Reich. The turning point of his life on November 8, 1939. That day was the assassination of Georg Elser failed to Adolf Hitler. In the presence of his roommates of studying theology in Freiburg Leisner regretted the failure of the attack. He was arrested and denounced the same day. It began a more than five-year-long ordeal.

After his ordination, the young priest remained low on life. So he could only celebrate Holy Mass. This took place on Boxing Day 1944. Leisner's body was first buried in Kleve and 1966, transferred to the crypt of the Xanten Cathedral. Karl Leisner was beatified on 23 June 1996 by Pope John Paul II.. In 2007, the Diocese of Münster initiated the canonization process. He could not be completed, however, until now.
