On the 20th of March 2015, An Post issued four stamps to celebrate the success of Animation Ireland. 

The stamps incorporate augmented reality technology, a first for An Post. Each 68c stamp can be scanned by a smartphone using either the Android or iOS version of the QR code-scanning app CEE App to unlock an exclusive film.


Established in 2006, Animation Ireland is a group of leading Irish animation studios working together to promote and market Ireland’s world class animation sector. Indigenous Irish studios have been nominated for many prestigious international awards including BAFTA’s, Emmy’s and Oscar’s. The sector employs over 1,000 technical and creative people and is a central component of Ireland’s digital and creative economy.


The animation industry has enjoyed significant growth over the past five years in Ireland and has emerged as a central component of Ireland's digital and creative economy and the award-winning studios here employ over 1,000 technical and creative staff. 





The four new stamps were designed by Vermillion Design and feature Roy, Give Up Yer Aul Sins, The Secret of Kells and Nelly & Nora. 


Roy, produced by Jam Media, was awarded the coveted 2012 Children's BAFTA Drama Award. Give Up Yer Aul Sins by Brown Bag Films, received an Oscar nomination in the Short film (Animated) category in 2002. The Secret of Kells by Cartoon Saloon was nominated for an Oscar in 2010 in the best Animated Feature Film category. More recently, Nelly & Nora by Geronimo Productions has achieved considerable international success and had its world premiere in February 2015.
