The history of blood donation in Russia dates back to the XIX century. April 20, 1832 in our country held its first blood transfusion Petersburg obstetrician Andrea Wolf.
Then the idea of donation was developed during the First World War, when the military doctors began successfully and widely applied method citrate transfusion. In 1926, Moscow was the first in the world Blood Transfusion Institute (now the Hematology Research Center, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences). In 1928, the People's Commissar of Health of the RSFSR Nikolai Semashko approved the Regulations on the use of therapeutic method of blood transfusion. The traditions of voluntary blood donation is still going on. Since 2008, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA of Russia) and FGBUZ Blood Center FMBA of Russia is implementing a large-scale government program development of voluntary hospitals donorstvadlya ensure the necessary volume of safe and effective components and blood products.
