The Universitas Istropolitana from the 16th century is frequently – but incorrectly – referred to as Academia Istropolitana. In literal translation it means - University/Academy in the city at Danuby river. Universitas Istropolitana is the first university founded on the territory of present Slovakia.
There is also a planetoid in the asteroid belt named (11614) Istropolitana to commemorate this University.
In 1967 Czechoslovakia issued a silver - 10 Korunas - coin to commemorate Quincentenary of Istropolitana.
