It is hard to believe that the history of the stamp goes back 175 years already. A considerable period of time, which has seen many high points. The first postage stamp, the British Penny Black, introduced by Sir Rowland Hill in 1840 completely revolutionized the postal system of the time. It did not take long for his invention to spread across the world. Switzerland was also a pioneer with its cantonal stamps the Zurich 4 and 6, the Double Geneva (both 1843) and the famous Basel Dove of 1845.
