On 19th March 1866, Abbé Roussel took six children off the streets, seeing them as people in their own right rather than just street urchins.

At that time, it wasn’t good for children to be wandering the streets. Many were arrested and sent to la Petite Roquette, a prison for juveniles in Paris. Ever since, hundreds of thousands of children and teens taken in by the foundation have benefitted from the comprehensive support focusing on both personal and spiritual development alongside manual, intellectual and vocational training. Today, the foundation has an annual intake into its establishments of nearly 25,000 young people experiencing problems at school, socially and within the family, and supports over 5,000 families in their role as educators.
