An Italian tenor born in Naples in 1873, Enrico Caruso is a true legend, considered by many critics to be the greatest opera singer of all time. In his lifetime, he became a legend and a fixture in the public imagination due to his voice, renowned for its range, power and beauty, but also due to his personality: he was captivating, deeply human, unaffected and generous. 



He also owes his fame to the then new magic of the record, of which he was a pioneer: it was he who boosted the industry, and the industry repaid him well, feeding into his legendary status. The stamp depicts Caruso in Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto.
