The gold medal won by the Women’s National Handball Team on December 22nd 2013 in Belgrade, Serbia, in an unbeaten and unprecedented way, is a milestone in the history of the sport. This was the first world title for Brazil and the Americas.

This achievement is also due to the great support that handball has received from its partners, such as the Brazilian Post. The modality was one of the 21 selected for the Medal Plan, a Federal Government project, which considered it to have real chances to rise to the podium at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

This stamp is a source of great pride for the CBHb - Brazilian Handball Confederation, founded in 1979. Throughout its history, Brazilian handball never stopped growing and developing. A remarkable achievement was during the women’s World Championship in 2011, when Brazil won the fifth place, showing to the world it had strong handball team and was growing fast. The following year, in the 2012 London Olympics, Brazil got the sixth place, the best in history until then. This great moment of handball was of course crowned by the 2013 world title.

The Brazilian Post and the Brazilian Handball Confederation, partners in this issue, have the honor of registering the accomplishment of the 1st Brazilian Handball World Title, inserting the sport in the memory of Brazilian and world philately.
